Jim Henry Harper, 88, of Lefors, passed away December 26,2018 in McLean. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Randy Stalls, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Jim was born on February 27, 1930 to Leonard and Matisha Harper in Coffee County, Georgia. He joined the US Army in 1947, during which time he met and married Betty Jean Hall. When his enlistment was over, they relocated to Pampa in 1950 where he spent his early years as delivery man for LeeWay motor freight. He spent the rest of his working career as a local cowboy in the beef industry. His later years were spent in Lefors with his close and dear companion Evelyn Henry. Jim’s leisure time was spent either on a wagon behind a pair of mules or surrounded by his family whom he loved more than anything else. He will be remembered as a jovial and loving family man with a story, or two, for every occasion. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, two sons Jimmy Dale and Leonard Ray, and brother Dempsey Harper. He is survived by his companion, Evelyn Henry of the home; his son, Johnny and wife Cindy in Lefors; his brother, Winston Harper of Bryceville, Florida; five grandchildren, Shannon Degner of Amarillo, Shonda Jones and husband Jamison of Amarillo, Jason Harper of Pampa, Joshua Harper of Katy, and Jeremy Harper of Port St. Lucie, Florida; four great grandchildren, Dustie Degner of Pampa, Jordan Degner of Katy, Jeron Degner of Pampa, and Tucker Jones of Amarillo; and one great-great grandchild, Kade Degner of Amarillo.
