Jim Murray, 81, of Miami, passed away on September 25, 2020 in Canadian.
Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the United Methodist Church of Miami with Pastor Gene Hudgins, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Jim was born May 16, 1939 in Tulia to Rube and Estelle Murray. He grew up in Pampa and was a Golden Glove boxer. Jim graduated from Pampa High School in 1959. He married Paulette Shepard on October 29, 1966 in Amarillo. They lived several years in Bugbee before moving to Miami, where he has lived the past 30 years. He started his career with Gibson’s in Pampa as assistant manager for several years before being transferred to Borger as the manager of Gibson’s in Borger for 10 years. He went on to work for over 35 years in the oilfield for various companies before he retired.
Jim loved to spend time fishing and he had a love for ALL animals. His sense of humor and his practical jokes will be missed by so many. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Danny Murray and Jimmy Murray; and a brother, Dick Murray.
Survivors include his wife, Polly of the home; 3 daughters, Betty Holland and husband Mark, Charlene Phillips and husband Gary all of Borger, and Bridgett Hunt and husband Aaron of Lefors; 2 sons, Fred Evans and wife Tamara of Borger and Jammy Souix Murray and wife Stephanie of Amarillo; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
