Jo Ann McKay, 80, of Pampa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 30, 2023 in Pampa.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 7, 2023 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Ed Sattesahn, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. The funeral service will be livestreamed through the funeral home’s website.
Jo Ann McKay was born November 10, 1942 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Ed and Dorothy Gattis. They moved to Pampa in 1948 and she attended Pampa High School. On May 24, 1959, she married the love of her life, LaMoyne Thomas “Tom” McKay in Pampa. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Jo Ann referred to Tom as her “Knight in Shining Armor” and she loved and adored him throughout their wonderful marriage. She worked for several companies in Pampa during her work career. Her last job was Jo Ann’s Creations, she owned and operated the business for several years until her health wouldn’t allow it. Jo Ann was very creative and enjoyed making beautiful arrangements and wreaths.
Jo Ann was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church. She had a passion for the Lord and lived her life for Jesus and spread the Gospel so all would come to know the Lord. The past few years she would write articles for the Pampa News on the Church page. Jo Ann always started her articles with “Dear Readers……and would sign it “Jo Ann McKay, servant of Jesus.” She left a legacy of serving Jesus and loving people.
Her hobbies included reading her Bible, decorating her home, and tending to her flower bed. Jo Ann was great seamstress and enjoyed sewing. She made everything she did special, whether it was a birthday party or a holiday, it didn’t matter. Jo Ann wanted everyone she met to feel special. She loved her family and will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Dorothy; grandmother, Margaret King; mother-in-law, Alice Sharum; granddaughter, Jo Ann “Jo Jo” Morehart; and a grandson, Cody McKay Ellis.
Survivors include her husband, Tom McKay of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Morehart and husband John of Pampa and Linda McKay Ellis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son, Bobby McKay and wife Leyla of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two brothers, Richard Gattis of Pampa and Ronnie Gattis of Jasper, Texas; sister, Shirley Hutchinson and husband Dewey of Pampa; four grandchildren, Ricky Morehart and wife Ashley of Fate, Texas, Dylan Ellis and wife Jessica of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Chayce McKay Glenn and Logan Glenn of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and Karson McKay of Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 PM. The family will be at 2421 Evergreen, Pampa, Texas.
