JoAnn Jones, 80, of Pampa, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Pampa.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 28, 2022 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, and John Curry, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
JoAnn was born April 4, 1941 in Pampa to Fred and Clotille Thompson. She graduated from Pampa High School in 1959. While in high school, she was very involved in journalism and was the editor of The Little Harvester. After high school, JoAnn received her bachelor's degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in 1965. She made her way back to Pampa in 1977 where she began her career with Pampa Independent School District. In 1984 she earned her Master of Education degree from West Texas State University. During her career, JoAnn taught World History, led the Gifted and Talented program, and was a high school counselor. Upon her retirement in February of 2003, she was the Director of Secondary Curriculum. JoAnn was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she was very active in multiple church ministries. She was also very active within the community of Pampa where she served on multiple boards through the years. A few of these included the White Deer Land Museum board, the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, and Good Samaritan Christian Services. She also volunteered at PAWS, Pampa Senior Citizens Center, and Snak-Pak-4-Kids. From 2003-2007 she owned and operated Northfork Antiques in McLean with her dear friend Linda Haynes. JoAnn had a servant’s heart and was always looking to help others, but did both without any fanfare or recognition. She was always up for an adventure, especially if it meant traveling to new places. Most of all, she loved her family and friends dearly.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jim Thompson.
