JoAnn Cupell Stephens, 78, of Pampa, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, in Pampa.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Pampa with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. JoAnn was born on August 14, 1941, in Dalhart, TX to JoEd and Anita Cupell. She attended schools in various towns in the Texas Panhandle and graduated as the Valedictorian of Estelline High School in 1959. She married Jerry Dale Stephens on September 1, 1961, in Wellington, TX.
JoAnn worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, and/or office manager for various companies, including Cabot Machinery, PIA Insurance, J.T. Richardson Trucking, Billy Scribner Welding, and WBD Oil & Gas where she retired in December 2007.
JoAnn enjoyed cooking, sewing, scrapbooking, and crafts of all kinds. JoAnn and Jerry enjoyed square dancing for many years. Her favorite color was red and her favorite time of year was Christmas. For many years she enjoyed attending the Oklahoma City Affair of the Heart craft show with her daughters, sister, and nieces. She loved playing games with her large family and vacationing in the mountains. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pampa.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, JoEd and Anita Cupell; siblings Karen and David Cupell; and grandsons, Justin Taylor and Brant McElroy.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 58 ½ years, Jerry; her four daughters, Cindy Nicholson and husband Ken of Amarillo, Sheila McElroy and husband James of Pampa, Tammy Vincent and husband Rusty of Amarillo, and Amber Schock and husband Marcus of Evans, GA; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Taylor of Fritch, Lindsey Botello of Pampa, Jason Taylor of Canyon, Reece McElroy of Tulsa, OK, Tanner Stephens of Augusta, GA, Brad Vincent of Lubbock, Bailey Vincent of Amarillo, and Sara Kate Schock of Evans, GA; 4 great-grandchildren, Avery, Boston, and Baron Botello of Pampa, and Kaysen Taylor of Amarillo. She is also survived by a brother, Albert Cupell and wife Pat of College Station; a sister, Nita Allison and husband Randy of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Connie Cupell Jordan of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pampa Nursing Center, Tonya Garza, and Interim Healthcare/Hospice of Pampa for their love and care.
