Joe Albert Thompson, 84, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, formerly of Pampa passed away, Saturday November 23, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, and Ron Shirley, chaplain of Grace Living Center in Chickasha, Oklahoma, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Thompson born February 9, 1935 in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High School. Joe served his country in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged from 474th medical detachment and as a Sargent 1st Class from Co B 1st BG 142nd Infantry. He moved to Pampa in the late 1950's where he worked many years at Dunlap’s Department Store and later until his retirement in the chemical oil and gas industry. Joe married his wife, Joy on July 27, 1962 in Pampa. At the time of her passing in 2013, they were married 51 years. Joe moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma following the death of his wife, then resided in Chickasha, Oklahoma until the time of his death.
He was a member at Central Baptist Church. He lived through and for the Lord every day. Joe led devotions at his Center to spread the word of the Lord and to spread his love of gospel music.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
Survivors include his daughter, Denise Childress and husband Curtis of Blanchard, Oklahoma; his son, Scott Thompson and wife Becky of Chatsworth, California; four grandchildren, Colby Childress and wife Hilary of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Gracie Thompson, Tessa Thompson, and Griffen Thompson all of Chatsworth, California; a great granddaughter, Bryar Childress of Blanchard, Oklahoma.
