John A Tackett

John A. Tackett, 87, of Pampa passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Pampa with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

John was born on June 12, 1933 in Sasakawa, Oklahoma to Jasper Newton and Bessie Mae Satterfield Tackett. The family moved to Pampa in 1945 when John was 12. John attended school in Pampa before enlisting in the Army on January 13, 1952. He received two Bronze Service Stars, a Bronze Star Medal with the oak leaf cluster, an Army Commendation with the oak leaf cluster, and a Sharpshooter Award for his actions during his time in the Army. John married Doris Berkimer on May 7, 1955 in Washington, DC. Doris passed away on August 5, 1994. He worked as an aircraft mechanic and repairman for 20 years before retiring from the Army in 1972, he then worked at Pantex in vehicle maintenance for 18 years. He later married Delpha McDade. She preceded him in death. John was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Loyal Order of Moose. He attended Central Baptist Church.

John was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Ruble Woodward and Bobbi Mullens; and 2 brothers, Chester Tackett and Junior Tackett.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Kenneth Tackett of Eugene, Oregon and Michael Tackett and wife Joni of La Luz, New Mexico; 2 daughters, Amy Smith and husband Duane of Greenville, Texas and Sue Hawley and husband David of Amarillo; 2 sisters, Ora Mae Hedrick and Gloria Marlar and husband Bobby all of Pampa; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
