Juan “Johnny” Benavidez, 75, of Pampa passed away on March 15, 2021 in Pampa.
Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with, Pastor Paul Nachtigall, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. The service will be livestreamed through the funeral home website.
Johnny was born August 31, 1945 in Robstown to Valentine and Maria Benavidez. He has been a longtime resident of Pampa. Johnny married the love of his life, Nora Delva Coronado on August 23, 1966 in Pampa. He worked various jobs in and around Pampa for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Johnny had many hobbies that kept him busy such as working odd jobs, fishing, and cooking out. He had a giving heart and would help anyone in need. His family and friends were important to him and he loved each one dearly. He was called “Day”, “Grandpa”, and “Papi” by his family and loved to spend time with them. A special thank you to the C P family and their neighbors for the love and care they have shown to the Benavidez family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Yolanda and Rebecca Benavidez; 2 sisters, Dianna Westphal and Lydia Martinez; 3 brothers, Raul Benavidez, “Big Sunny” Benavidez, and Ruben Benavidez; and brother-in-law, Eugenio Coronado.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nora Benavidez of the home; 2 daughters, Maria Wright and husband Tommy of Shamrock and Juanita High of Elk City; sister, Susie Erwin of Wheeler; 12 grandchildren, Juan “Pepin” Benavidez Poindexter and wife Leslie, Jose Luis Ruiz, Tommy Wright, Jr. and wife Abbigail, Brandon Lee Wright, Belmor Dashaun Wright, Mariah Diann Wright, Cori Curry, Mackenze Basham, Jim O’Neal Mayfield, III and wife Chanel, Joshua “Vegetables” Ray Mayfield, Shikyra RaeLynn High and fiancé Jayden Carroll, and Emily Dainelle High; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
