Katherine Pigford Reeve

February 26, 1924 — March 3, 2025

Allen, Texas

Katherine Pigford Reeve, 101, of Allen, TX and formerly of Pampa, TX passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025 in Allen, TX.

Memorial services will be held Saturday March 29, at 11:00 AM in Pampa at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Mark Lang, retired minister, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Katherine was born in Mobile, AL on Feb 26, 1924 and spent much of her early childhood in New Orleans, LA. Her father was a medical doctor in cardiology and her mother was an avid reader and housewife. The family moved to Tulsa, OK where her father established his medical practice. Katherine attended elementary through high school in Tulsa public schools, graduating from Tulsa Central High. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church until she went to college. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University). Katherine married John “Jack” R. Reeve, her high school sweetheart. They took a break from college until WWII was over, during which time Jack served as a pilot in the US Navy. The couple finished college together and Katherine graduated with a degree in elementary education. They lived in Pasadena, CA, Beacon, NY, and Tulsa, OK prior to settling in Pampa, TX. Here the children grew up and Jack eventually retired as V.P of Engineering for IRI International, a major oilfield company.

Katherine and Jack had two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren. Katherine was an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church for nearly 65 years. Her ministries were many: Sunday School teacher, Diocesan Convention delegate, and numerous roles in the Women of St. Matthew’s, including maker of altar linens, maintainer of flower beds and a friend to welcome newcomers. For over 30 years, Katherine worked as a volunteer at the Pampa Sheltered Workshop where she developed long-term relationships with individuals who were mentally and physically challenged. She served on the workshop advisory board where she always advocated for the rights and welfare of people with special needs.

In 1992, Katherine was awarded the Pampa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi’s “Woman of the Year” from a group of incredible candidates. She worked tirelessly her entire life to care for her family, including full-time caregiver of her daughter Natalie who was unable to walk. Katherine still found time to raise two sons and to continually provide encouragement to her husband. She acquired a reputation as a fine cook, an accomplished confectioner, a seamstress, and took great pride in maintaining a beautiful home and yard. For over 30 years, she spent summers at the family cabin high in the San Juan Mountains of Lake City, CO. During the past four years, Katherine has continued to spread her legacy of kindness, grace, and love in Allen, TX at The Heritage of Twin Creeks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John R. “Jack” Reeve; son, Randall C. “Randy” Reeve; daughter, Natalie Reeve; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Ruth Reeve.

Survivors include her son, Russell C. “Rusty” Reeve and wife Kimberly “Kim” of Lucas, TX; grandchildren, John Robert Reeve of Durango, CO, Mary Katherine “Katie” Chaney of Austin, TX, Stacy B. Johnson of Carrollton, TX, Megan M. Sibley of The Colony, TX, Elizabeth Kelly of Lucas, TX, Tyler Slater of Lewisville, TX, and twelve great grandchildren.
