Kathleen Stowers Hipkins, 91, of Pampa, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at her home in Pampa. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Kathleen Stowers Hipkins was born November 30, 1925 in Carter, Oklahoma to Thomas Lafayette and Ruby King Stowers. She graduated from Retrop High School in 1944 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, majoring in art and interior design. Kathleen married Ralph Hipkins on June 1, 1946 in Carter, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2005. Kathleen was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother and was very generous and giving to her friends and family. She was an excellent seamstress, avid gardener and gifted artist who painted in oils, watercolor and china. One of her pieces of painted china was selected to be on display at the World Organization of China Painters Museum in Oklahoma City. Kathleen was also a successful businesswoman who was the owner and president of two oil and gas companies and was involved in several other business interests. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Desk and Derrick Club, and the Pampa and Amarillo China Painters' clubs. Kathleen was also preceded in death by her son, Dan Hipkins, her parents, Ruby and Fate Stowers, and her brothers, Walter and Vernon Stowers. Survivors include her daughter, Janice Hipkins Porter and her husband, Lee of Pampa; six grandchildren, Chris Porter and wife Angela, and Gavin Porter and wife, Kelley, all of Pampa; Jai Jai Porter Diehl and husband Gerry of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dallas; Heidi Hipkins of Wheeler, Danielle Kenaston of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Hayley Ellsworth and husband Scott of Spring Hill, Florida; seven great grandchildren, Bradey, Emiley, Abbey, Hannah, Duncan, and Alexis Porter, all of Pampa and Mariah Selby of Wheeler; a great great granddaughter, Rowan Kate Selby of Wheeler; her former daughter-in-law, Cathy Hipkins Burrell of Wheeler, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Porter and Hipkins families would like to thank Kathleen's team of loyal and caring sitters, Brenda Calixto, Lilly Calixto, Carolina Sanchez, Romelia Leal, the late Maria Lopez, Frances Threadgill, Charline Harris and Lorena Rodriguez for the wonderful care given to Kathleen during the past seven years.
