Ken Randall Gill, 70, of Miami, passed away August 8, 2019 in Miami.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church of Miami, with Richard Royal, First Christian Church pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Ken was born August 25, 1948 in Pampa to Janie and Randall Gill. He spent the majority of his life in Miami. Ken graduated from Miami High School in 1967. He attended West Texas State University and was a member of Block and Bridle. He gained a wealth of lifelong friendships and memories. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Ann Stockstill July 30, 1971 in Pampa. They lived in Dimmitt and Hereford before making their home in Miami where they raised their 3 children. Ken has been a farmer and rancher all of his life. He had a cattle trucking operation and feed business, Cattle Country. Ken owned and managed Miami Land and Cattle with his son William and JP Cattle Co with William and his friends the Pennington’s. He was a stockholder in Superior Livestock Auction and was serving his 25th year as Roberts County Commissioner. He’s a member of The First Christian Church. He served on the Miami ISD school board and the Roberts County Livestock board.
He was an entrepreneur and hard-working in all that he did and a mentor to many. If you ever had the opportunity to work with him you learned that all gates should be shut, even the ones he told you to open. A suburban is the most versatile ranch truck and can go 60+ mph through any pasture. It is possible to use every curse word you know in a single breath. If he said it would take 2 hours, it will take 6. And if you didn’t get yelled at, you weren’t there.
He enjoyed life to the fullest! And his life was FULL of great friends and family. He loved telling stories and jokes, traveling with friends and family, buying dinner and playing cards. His biggest joy was being Pop to his grandchildren. Out of everything in his life he was most proud of them, who think he hung the moon. Ken Gill was larger than life and the ultimate bull in a china closet. He loved people and people loved him. His huge smile and twinkling eyes will forever be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Gill of the home; two daughters, Nancy Gill-Pardue and husband Brett of Weatherford, and Lindsay Gill and companion Kody King of Miami; a son, William Gill and companion Joeletta McLain of Miami; two sisters, Kathy Thompson of Miami, and Cheryl Bean and husband Roy of Stinnett; one granddaughter, Kennedy Gill of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Kutter Gill of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Trevor Gill and Fletcher Gill, both of Miami; sister-in-law, Nancy Cervi of Greeley, Colorado; and a host of other extended family.
