K. Ray Armstrong, 88, of White Deer, passed away on March 2, 2022 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2022 at White Deer Cemetery with Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
K. Ray was born on August 4, 1933 in a farmhouse near Hulver, in Hall County. He was the third of the five children born to Marie Jouett and William Frank Armstrong. K. Ray established residence in White Deer in 1952, after constantly moving and attending many different schools. He finished the 10th grade of his formal education.
K. Ray served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1953 until April of 1957. During his time, he served one year at Thule Air Base in Greenland and he spent the rest of his time in Texas and at England Air Force Base in Louisiana. He became a helicopter crew chief and a flight engineer and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant in just three and half years. He met and married Sylvia Mercedes Johnson in Hineston, Louisiana on July 20, 1956. From this union they had 3 children.
He served on the planning and zoning board for the city of White Deer and was a member of the White Deer Riding Club, where he served as President two different terms. K. Ray began a livestock hauling business in 1961 and continued it for 54 years. His wife, Sylvia, was an important part of their business, especially in communications.
K. Ray lost his southern belle, Sylvia, after 56 years, 3 months, and 8 days to COPD and congestive heart failure. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include his 3 children, Becky Colleen Huffhines, and his twin sons, Dusty Gayle Armstrong and Rusty Dale Armstrong; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; and many friends and loyal customers.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the White Deer EMS or White Deer Riding Club.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church fellowship hall on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 5:30-7:00 PM.
