Launa "Guy" Cook

Launa “Guy” Cook, 88, was born May 23, 1929 in Dublin, Texas and answered the Savior’s call in Glory November 22, 2017, in Pampa, Texas. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Guy was born the third child of Jesse T. and Velma J. Cook. Two months shy of Guy’s seventh birthday, his father, Jesse was killed in a truck wreck. Velma married Wayne Hatfield in 1937 and Guy ended up with a total of six brothers and sisters. In June 1948, Guy married Lena Faye Evans in Knox City, Texas. Guy and Faye had four sons; Gary, Lonnie, Daniel (Danny) and Paul. For a short time Guy sold cars for a local dealership in Marlin, before moving back to Knox City to work on the farm. He spent the majority of his adult life farming, raising cattle and four sons. In the 1960’s, he became a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Edmonson, Texas. After working as the farm foreman for his old friend Oliver King for a number of years, Guy rented his own farm in 1970 and for seven years farmed with his sons in Swisher, Hale, Dickens and Motley Counties. In 1977, Guy retired from farming and he and Faye owned and operated a barbeque restaurant in Knox City. They later sold the restaurant and moved to Pampa where he bought a propane business and mechanic shop. Guy sold propane, installed and service propane systems for a number of years. After Faye passed away Guy married DeLois Moore in Pampa. From the mid-1980’s until November 2017, Guy and DeLois lived in Plainview, where he had once again managed a propane business for Northern Propane, until his retirement. Guy was preceded in death by his father, Jesse T. Cook, his mother, Velma Reed Cook Hatfield, his step-father, Wayne Hatfield, his brothers L.W. (Lum Wheeler) Cook, Horace Wayne Hatfield, his sisters, Mary Lee Thomas, and Betty Jean Johnston, a daughter-in-law Barbara Cook and a step-son Joe Moore. Guy is survived by his wife, DeLois, four sons, Gary Cook and wife Colene, Lonnie Cook and wife Quilla, Danny Cook and wife Tedenne and Paul Cook and wife Betty; step-daughters Karen Furnish and husband Jay, Rhonda Patterson; step-son, Ben Moore; two sisters, Nina Mae Richardson and Linda Carol Tibbets; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.Special Notice: The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM, Friday, November 24, 2017 at the funeral home.
