Leroy E. Thornburg, Sr. of Pampa, has fallen into his final sleep and returned home on January 27, 2018, having been on loan to us for 90 years and 7 months. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Memory Gardens Mausoleum with his son, Russell Thornburg, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements and burial are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Leroy was born on June 20, 1927 in White Deer, Texas one of 9 children born to Alma and Orville Thornburg. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pampa. During his prime years, he loved watching his boys play ball, and was totally engaged in all of his children when it came to livestock shows. As a true competitor, he himself continued to be active in the show route well into his 80’s. Leroy loved to sing, especially to his wife, and most recently enjoyed a family sing-along with his children at Thanksgiving. He leaves behind his wife of 66 ½ years, Joy Jeneane Worrell Thornburg; his daughter, Delia Ann Grimes and husband Joe of Pampa; 3 sons, Leroy E. Thornburg, Jr and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, Timothy Mac L. Thornburg of Pampa, and Russell Thornburg and wife, Beth of Olathe, Kansas; his three granddaughters, Christy Fanneli of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cindy Cox and husband David of Springtown, and Alexis Griffith and husband Tyler of San Antonio; his 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Violet Stanford of Linden; his sister-in-law, Virginia Martinez of El Paso; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on 6:00PM- 7:30PM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the funeral home.
