Lester Glenn Newman, Jr., 78, of Allison, Texas passed away on December 29, 2017 in Baggs, Wyoming. Services will be at 10:00AM Thursday, January 4, 2018 at First Christian Church in Pampa with Rev. Dr. Jeff Knighton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Newman was born January 23, 1939 in Electra, Texas to Lester and Dorothy Newman. He was a 1957 graduate of Pampa High School, and went on to attend college at Oklahoma Panhandle State University and West Texas State University. He began his career farming and ranching, and later worked several years for the State Highway Department. He then spent time building stock trailers and then ended his working career in the oilfield. Lester married Frankie Caldwell on December 4, 1970 in Dallas, she passed away on May 16, 2013. Lester was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Pampa where he served as a deacon for many years. He recently moved to Baggs, Wyoming to be closer to his daughter. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working with horses, and golfing in his younger years. Mr. Newman loved spending time with his family, and most of all loved being “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phillis Newman; and a son, Garvin Reeves. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara “Barbie” Seiloff and husband Ron of Baggs, Wyoming; two sons, James D. Newman and wife Terry of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Lewis Newman and wife Tina of White Deer; three sisters, Joyce Braziel of Kaufman, Jeannette Fitch of Canadian, and Melba “Suzy” Sirmans and husband Jackie of Pampa; a brother, Harold “Bub” Newman and wife Inge of Mesquite; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Memorials can be made to a favorite charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-7:30PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Mr. Newman will be available for viewing starting Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
