Leta Mae Herd Gatlin, 99, of Mobeetie, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in Canadian.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Brother Ryan Clark of First Baptist Church of Pampa, and Steve Berry of Cedar Park, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mrs. Gatlin was born on September 3, 1918 to Eugene and Ethel Herd and was raised on a farm west of Mobeetie. Shortly after high school graduation, she married Charles “Barney” Gatlin in 1937, and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1985. They raised three children and were lifelong members of the First Baptist Church in Mobeetie.
Mrs. Gatlin loved to sew, crochet and cook impressive family meals. Her chocolate cream pies were loved by all. She made extra-soft patchwork quilts for everyone in her life – at least 50 in all that were affectionately referred to by her husband as a “Frog-Fuzz”. She always had a faithful pet at her side and leaves her beloved Pete in good hands. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Walser of Canadian; two sons, Dan Gatlin of Briscoe and Ronnie Gatlin of Mobeetie; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by five sisters and one brother, Myrtis Welch, Anita Goodner, Velma Carter, Martha Schones, Ima Jean Murrell and Neal Herd; one granddaughter, Connie Quimby; and two great-grandchildren, Tristen Gatlin and Josh Gatlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations to Edward Abraham Nursing Home, 803 Birch Street, Canadian, Texas 79014; or First Baptist Church, 206 W. 2nd Street, Mobeetie, Texas 79061.
