Lillian M. Powers

November 24, 1928 — March 1, 2019

Lillian M. Powers, 90, of Booker passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019 in Booker.

Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Jody Been, her grandson, and Rev. Steve Patterson, pastor of Friends Church in Booker, officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Powers was born November 24, 1928 in Pampa to A.P. and Leona Stark.  She was a 1947 Pampa High School graduate.  After graduation she met Will D. Powers and they were married on October 15, 1949 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1994.  Lillian was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church before moving her membership to First Baptist Church of White Deer.  While in White Deer, she was instrumental and started the bus ministry at the church.  At one point she would pick up over 50 children on Sunday to take them to church.

Lillian worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 15 years before going to work for White Deer Independent School District for another 15 years.  She has lived in Booker at Twin Oaks Manor for the past 17 years and has really enjoyed the friendships she has made there.  She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with all the residents and staff.  While in Booker she would go to Friends Church with her daughter when she was able.  Lillian has kept every card or letter that has been sent to her; they all were special to her.  She loved her family dearly and would stay in constant contact with her grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.  Lillian loved being “Granny” or “G” to her 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin, Lowell Stark; two sisters, Willetta Sanchez and Lois Gillespie; five brothers, Andrew Stark, Jim Stark, Douglas Stark, Warren Stark, and Willis Stark; and a grandson, Brad Been.

Survivors include her two daughters, Pam Been and husband Alan of Pampa, and Kathy Goldsmith and husband Bryan of Booker; five grandchildren, Jody Been and wife Ruth, Colby Duvall and wife Tamara, McKenzie Shoemate, Kason Gabriel, and Kreed Goldsmith; and seven great grandchildren, Meia, Addie, Kaymen, Kynzlie, Kymber, Maggie, and Miriam.

Memorials can be sent to Buckner Foster Care and Adoption, 4000 Mays, Amarillo, Texas 79109.
