Lucille was born on January 10, 1928 in Haskell, TX to Mary and Joe Zelisko. She grew up and attended school in Haskell and graduated from Haskell High School. After graduating she would later marry the love of her life, Aubrey Lee Roden, Jr. on April 24, 1949 in Haskell and they would share 70 good years before he preceded her in death in 2019.
Before their marriage, Lucille worked as an assistant colorist at Blohm’s Photography studio and later as a stenographer for a local attorney in Haskell, TX. After their marriage, they worked and tended to the family farm for few years until Aubrey changed professions into seismograph. Lucille and Aubrey travelled extensively through Aubrey’s career. They lived in various cities along the coast of Louisiana and Texas, making their primary residence in Bay City, TX, where they owned and she maintained rental property. In 1973 they moved north to Perryton, TX, when Aubrey left seismograph and went into production. In each of those locations they made many great friends. In 1980, they moved to Pampa and have remained ever since.
Lucille owned and operated Roden’s Fabric Shop that would follow them from Bay City, Perryton, and Pampa, keeping her busy for 55 years. For the last 15 years, she managed the family farms. Lucille was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pampa and the Gray County Genealogical Society. Her interests included genealogy, sewing, collecting pecans from their trees, and making homemade candy and treats for her family and friends. Lucille will always be remembered for supporting and taking care of ill family members.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Mary Jo Nipper Osborne.
Her survivors include, two daughters, Rhonda Slovak and husband Stan of Duncanville, TX and Denise Rueckert and husband Ron of Roswell, Georgia; a son, David Roden and wife Jan of Borger, grandson, Brandon Slovak and husband Stu Slovak of Double Oak; three granddaughters, Shauna Slovak and partner Katy Baker of Sanger, Haley Roehr and husband Nate, of Amarillo and Kami Roden, of Amarillo; a great grandson, Evan Roehr of Amarillo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1981, Pampa, Texas 79066-1981; or a charity of choice.
