Mable was born on April 9, 1930, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Ralph and Margaret Porter Fox. She attended school in Sapulpa and Burkburnett, graduating from Burkburnett High School in 1948. After school, she travelled all over the United States. Several years later, she met Jim Ruth in 1965. They were married in California and moved to Skellytown soon after. They spent most of their life in Skellytown, but Mable held jobs in several towns in the panhandle. She served as a waitress at Around the Clock in Borger, worked at Marie Foundations in Pampa for a short time, and worked as a waitress at a few restaurants in Amarillo as well.
Eventually, Mable stayed at home to take care of her husband and children. She loved to cook for them and take care of the home. Together, Mable and Jim served as volunteer EMTs for the Skellytown Fire Department. Mable was very crafty and was amazing at anything she put her mind to. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, canvas work, sewing, and macrame. In the early years of their marriage, Mable and Jim would often go out square dancing. Mable would sew beautiful dresses and matching vests for the two of them to dance in. Mable was active in the lives of her family and would travel great distances to be involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Whether it was an event in Pampa or Dallas, she was there for her family. Mable was a wonderful lady and will be missed by her family and friends.
Mable is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Ruth; two brothers, Bobby Fox and Ralph Fox; two sisters, Barbara Easley and Dorothy Holloway; two sons, Richard Williams and Randy Ruth; and one daughter, Margaret Fox.
She is survived by three children, Bobbie Jo Wright and husband Alan of Wichita Falls, Gary Metz and wife Terrie of Crowley, and Susan Hennessey of Skellytown; daughter-in-law, Marcy Ruth of Skellytown; 14 grandchildren, Alex Fox, Michael Holloway, Robert Holloway, Larry Holloway, James Metz, Gary R. Metz, Michelle Green, Rachel Moore, Richard Conner, Nick Ruth, Tori Ruth, Mark Ruth, Zachary Ruth, and Jennie Rankin; numerous great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
