Margaret Sweet

June 20, 1925 — October 16, 2018

Margaret Sweet, 93, of Pampa, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Pampa.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 20, 2018, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Sweet, her son and pastor of Helotes United Methodist Church in San Antonio, and Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.  Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Sweet was born June 20, 1925 in Greenwood, Mississippi to Grady and Jimmy Ella Roberts.  She attended Greenwood schools, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1942.  She then attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. 

Margaret married J. E. “Ed” Sweet on June 30, 1953 in Greenwood.  She and Ed came to Pampa in 1961 from Greenville, Texas.  Margaret was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, and she was a homemaker.  Her hobbies included playing bridge and knitting.  Margaret was a terrific cook, and she loved cooking for family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her two sisters, Geneva Womack and Juanita Spence.

Survivors include her husband, J. E. “Ed” Sweet of the home; a daughter, Cassandra Vazquez and husband Leopoldo of Houston; a son, Rev. Jim Sweet and wife Rebecca of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Emily Holland and husband Gene, Katherine Swinney and husband Jonathan, and Laura Sweet, all of Austin; Benjamin Sweet and wife Holly of Houston, and Erika Vazquez of Los Angeles, CA; a niece, Susan Camp and husband Henry of Atlanta, GA; and by five great grandchildren. 

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1981, Pampa, TX 79066-1981.
