Marge Penn

September 24, 1930 — July 23, 2022

Marge Penn, 91, passed away on July 23, 2022, at her home in Pampa with her family by her side.

Services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at St. Matthews’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Mark Lang, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.

Marge was born on September 24, 1930, in Goree, TX to Alfred and Pink Bilbrey. She grew up in Wichita Falls and after graduating high school, she enrolled at Midwestern University to pursue a nursing degree, which is where she met her future husband, and love of her life, O.C. Penn. They married on July 7, 1951, in Wichita Falls. They came to Pampa in 1960 to build the life of their dreams and share together 63 plus years.  O.C. preceded her in death in January 2017.

Marge was a lifelong nurse. Her career spanned more than 30 years in many different capacities.  She was the director of nurses in Spearman, TX, she taught the LVN program at Highland General, she worked in Lefors and Grand View ISD’s and served both teachers and students in Pampa ISD as the head of Health Services.  Even after retirement Marge volunteered at Shepard’s Nursing Agency. But, when it was all said and done, her love was rooted in school nursing.

A longtime member of the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Marge loved caring and cooking for her family, being right in the middle of a big family gathering and never passed up a fishing trip to Branson, MO.  She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.

Marge is survived by her daughter, Renee and husband Phil McNeely of Duncanville; a granddaughter, Kristin and husband Justin Myrick of Vidor, and their children Grace, Makayla and Lyle; cousin, Rick Smith and wife Jennie of Katy, TX and their 3 children, Erich, Emily and Elliott, and their families.

A special thank you to all of her personal caregivers.  Thank you for taking such great care of Marge for the past five years!
