Marion Morgan

April 16, 1923 — September 23, 2017

Marion Morgan, 94, of Pampa, died September 23, 2017 in Lubbock. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Phil Vanderpool, her nephew, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Ms. Morgan was born April 16, 1923 in Lordsburg, New Mexico. With her father being a Methodist minister, she lived in several communities, living most of her adult life in New York City, New York, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a short time in Germany. Marion earned her Bachelor’s degree from Technical College of Minds and Metallurgy in El Paso (now University of Texas El Paso), magna cum laude. In 1976, she took a Master’s in public health from NYU School of Public Administration. She received a certificate from the University of Minnesota in Public Health in Epidemiology. She received her PhD in public health from Columbia University in New York City at around the age of 60. She loved to travel and loved her two nephews. Survivors include two nephews, Phil Vanderpool and wife Gladys of Pampa, and Pat Vanderpool and wife Colette of Tucumcari, New Mexico; her sister-in-law, Barbara Vanderpool of Pampa; two great nephews, Stephen Vanderpool and wife Brooke of Groom, and Keith Vanderpool of Amarillo; and one great niece, Catherine Vanderpool of Norman, Oklahoma. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hannah Vanderpool; and a brother, Dr. Harry Vanderpool. Memorials may be made to a cancer research organization of your choosing; or First United Methodist Church, UMCOR, PO Box 1981, Pampa, Texas 79066-1981.
