Marlene Florence Schaffer Morgan

Marlene Florence (Schaffer) Morgan died on July 4, 2023 in Pampa and rode the 4^th of July evening fireworks into heaven. 

Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Jericho Cemetery in Jericho with Dr. J. Thomas Lapacka, Lutheran minister, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Viewing for Marlene will be at the funeral home from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 6, 2023 and from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023. 

Marlene was born to Curtis and Oma Schaffer on January 11, 1938 in Pampa. She loved cooking enchiladas, eating hamburgers, and singing with her parents while playing the accordion in the family swing band, The Texas Swingsters, at the Lake McClelland Lodge and other places, including performances with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Marlene graduated from Groom High School in 1956 and would have celebrated her 67^th class reunion next month with her classmates.  She followed her parents and grandparents in taking responsibility for maintaining the Jericho Cemetery and Jericho Cemetery Association acting as its secretary and keeping the cemetery mowed and cleaned for many decades.  Marlene married Morris Morgan in Groom on March 5, 1961 and enjoyed her family and extended family members for the rest of her life.  Morris died in 2014, but many nephews, nieces, and other extended family carry on their legacy. Marlene lived a good, full life, and enjoyed her friends.   

Marlene’s family wants to thank multiple people for the great care provided to Marlene in her time of decline, including Melissa, Victoria, Ana, Rosa, Lynette, Mary, and other special people. Special thanks to the Interim Hospice team.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marlene can be made to the Jericho Cemetery, PO Box 101, Groom, Texas 79039. Marlene would love that.
