Martha Ann Green

April 15, 1937 — November 30, 2020

Martha Ann Green, 83, of Pampa passed away on November 30, 2020 in Plainview.

Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Joel Shumate officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.  The service will be live streamed through the funeral home website.  The family ask that face covering and social distancing be observed for the service.

Martha was born to Jessie Lee and Lloyd Carlile on April 15, 1937 in Sayre, Oklahoma.  She was the oldest of the three daughters.  Martha and her family lived in Sayre, Oklahoma, Flagstaff, Arizona, Groom, and later moved to Pampa.  She graduated from Pampa High School in 1955 and married Billy Joe Green on June 5, 1955.  He passed away on May 30, 2010.  She attended Clarendon College for a few years after high school.  Together they had two daughters, Cheryl and Vicki.  Martha had many different jobs in her life.  She started as a waitress at Malone Pharmacy in the summers and a secretary in many places including Hughes Realty and Management, Cree Drilling, and Magnolia Petroleum.  When Cheryl was born, she stayed home and did some typing for Warren Fatheree in her home.  She went back to work for Kewanee Oil Company for three years until Vicki was born.  Martha worked for worked for many companies in Pampa including Fatheree Insurance, State Representative Phil Cates, PISD,  Pampa Teachers Credit Union, Joe Cree, Aspen Petroleum, Sidwell Oil & Gas, Pampa News, and H & K Plugging and Salvage.

Martha grew up at First Baptist Church and attended many vacation bible schools around town.  After she married Billy, they joined First Christian Church, where her and the family were very active.  Martha was a deacon, has co-chaired the bazaar a few times, co-chaired the garage sale and Hanging of the Greens.  She also taught 6th grade Sunday school, and was in Sally and Joe Stringer’s Bible Study group.  Martha has been on her Walk to Emmaus, raised funds for building a new church, and helped with attendance for Sunday school.  She helped start the Lydia class and also worked occasionally for Linda in the office.  Martha has been an officer in CWF and a member of the Bethany class for over 50 years. 

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and planting flowers with Billy Joe, loved to go camping, boating, water skiing when their girls were young.  Martha did embroidery and quilting over the years as well as reading many versions of the Bible and took great pleasure in spending time with her family. 

She is preceded in death by a sister Eloise Ridgell.

Survivors include her two daughters, Cheryl Couts and husband Joe of Pampa and Vicki Young and husband David of Arlington; a sister, Wilna Shumate and husband Joel of Temple; grandchildren, Megan Biggs and husband Brandon, Meredith Couts, Garrett Couts, Madison Young, and Jade Young; great grandchildren, Bristol Biggs, Brix Biggs, and Breagan Biggs.
