Mary was raised in Lefors, Texas. At an early age, she found Jesus and was saved. Through her strong Christian beliefs, she was able to lead many to know Jesus. Mary’s favorite church, The White Deer Methodist Church, was often referred by her as home. She was a member of several clubs over the years including Bible Study Groups, Women of the Pioneers, Eastern Star, various Bridge Clubs. Anytime someone said let's play bridge she was ready. She enjoyed going to the White Deer Senior Center to share in wonderful fellowship. Mary married Gene Harlan and lived in Skellytown Texas where they raised 4 children. Mary started working part time at the Skellytown Post Office. After the passing of her husband in 1973 she took a promotion to be the Postmaster of Nazareth Texas. Later, she was promoted to the Postmaster of White Deer. She loved meeting people from all over and the postmaster’s trips provided the avenue for this. Mary moved to Denver Colorado to be near her 2 daughters Ann and Nancy, and Nancy’s husband, Greg. The three of them uprooted and moved to Wilmington NC. After 2 years, they all moved to Houston Texas to be close to Kirt, a grandson, and his two children. She loved having the kids around and they loved her. The joy of her life was seeing and hearing the kids. Fond memories were formed. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Bill Hesse and El Hesse of Lefors, Texas, Mary’s husband, Gene Harlan, three children, Bill Harlan, Ann Reynolds, and Mike Reynolds. Her son, Mike’s final wishes were for his ashes to be spread in the ocean in front of his home in Washington state. Mary will be laid to rest by her parents and her two children, Bill and Ann in the Lefors Cemetery. Mary is survived by one daughter Nancy Saporta and husband Greg from Houston, Texas. Mary made sure everyone knew how much she loved Greg. Greg loved her as his mother. Mary was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Kirt and Karrie McGhee, Anisa Hayden, Zack Harlan, Steph Harlan and Mike and Jessica Harlan. An even greater blessing came with 6 great grandchildren, Cody, Will Hayden, Zoe Harlan and Zack Pettit, Kaelyn and Kai McGhee Forever in our minds was that Mary loved to play games with her family. She always had a warm smile and a kind heart. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Let us use this day to celebrate the beginning of her life knowing the 23rd of July was her birthday.
