Mary Ellen Rodriguez, 78, of Pampa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at her home.
A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30-7:30 PM on Thursday immediately following the rosary.
Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2025 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Guadalupe Mayorga, of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Mary Ellen was born March 1, 1946 in Pampa to Baltazar and Maria Hernandez. She attended schools in Pampa. After high school, she married the love of her life, Butch Rodriguez, on June 20, 1964. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Mary Ellen worked in the nursery at several churches which included St. Matthews Episcopal Church and First Christian Church. She enjoyed her job. Mary Ellen also cooked for several years at the First Methodist Church for Wednesday night groups. She was a fabulous cook and loved cooking for others.
Mary Ellen enjoyed being around her friends. She was involved with the Red Hat Society for several years, always had a good time with the group of ladies. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, although sometimes she could be a bit feisty. Mary Ellen was a strong woman who loved her family dearly. She was dedicated to caring for and loving her family. She was the best “Gigi” to her only granddaughter, Elizabeta.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers; 6 sisters; and two daughters, Mary Kathleen Rodriguez and Stephanie Denise Scott.
Survivors include her husband, Butch of the home; two sons, Joseph Vincent Rodriguez of Dallas and Ben Rodriguez and wife Amy of Pampa; granddaughter, Elizabeta Rodriguez of Pampa; two brothers, Joaquin Hernandez of Seattle, WA and Anthony Hernandez of Amarillo; sister, Becky Erickson of Oklahoma City, OK; her special friends, Pat, Susan, and Brenda; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
