Mason was born on May 31, 1993 and left to be in the peaceful arms of our Lord on October 5, 2019.
During his short time on earth, Mason loved big, laughed loud, and lived louder. The lessons we learned from him about love, humor, kindness and loyalty will live on and ripple for so many lifetimes. And while he never set out to do so, Mason’s impact on our lives will change the way we wake up and choose to live the rest of our days.
Mason was a Marine, a dreamer, completely selfless and larger than life. He loved music even if his mom (whom he affectionately called “Mama Bird”) couldn’t understand the words. He loved Anime, watching shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Archer & Brickleberry, and wanted to join the Marines so badly that somehow, he charmed his pediatrician to not put asthma on his medical records. When he was stationed in Hawaii he took up skydiving -- because for Mason it was never about material things, but the memories he collected that mattered. Goofy and fun don’t begin to describe Mason. He was ALWAYS up to some kind of shenanigans. And that laugh, oh how we will miss his smile, his goofy faces, and his laughter.
Besides his sense of humor and quick wit, Mason was employed as an EMT at Southern Cross and Range Safety Officer at McQueeney Gun Club in New Braunfels, while pursuing his nursing degree at San Antonio College. Mason was very proud to have recently received his License to Carry a Handgun Instructor Certificate from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Mason loved many things, but more than anything, he loved people. He had many dear friends from all walks of life. Truly, Mason never, ever met a stranger. He was kind to people, even those who didn’t love him. It’s not the final day that counts, it was Mason’s journey: the lives he touched, the good he did, the love he gave.
His legacy will live on in Stacia, Evangeline, and Athena of the home; his mother, Donna Jensen and husband Chris of Amarillo; his father, Chuck Roach and Melia Thomas of Duncan, Oklahoma; a sister, Brooke Branch and husband Josh of Duncan, Oklahoma; seven brothers, Chaz Roach and Katlyn Rogers, Carson Roach, Jaxon Sorenson, John Jensen, Jake Jensen, Blake Jensen; all of Amarillo, Cody Jensen of Arlington, Virginia; maternal grandmother, Jane Bjork and husband Papa Duck of Amarillo; paternal grandmother, Lorene Roach of Lawton, Oklahoma; maternal grandfather, Wallace Hopson of Chandler, Arizona; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Mason was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charley Roach; maternal great-grandparents, Clyde and Vivian White “Grandma and PaPa Mickey Mouse.”
Mason Keith Roach was a son, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a dad, and the kind of friend you get only once in your lifetime. He lit up a room with his presence. Mason will be so dearly missed.
After the service, a reception will be held at Will Rogers Range Rider’s at 8829 FM RD 1541 Amarillo, TX 79118.
