Maxine Bennett, 95, of Pampa, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Pampa. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00PM, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Richard Bartel, associate pastor of Calvary Baptist, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Maxine Bennett was born on September 7, 1922 in Springfield, Colorado to Imogene and Marvin Messer. As a young girl, she moved to Pampa where she attended school and graduated from Pampa High School. She later married the love of her life, Boyd Bennett, in Elk City, Oklahoma. Boyd passed away while still a young man in 1958. While she was married to Boyd, she mainly just cared for the home and the boys but after he passed away, she knew she had to enter the workforce to help care for the boys. Maxine enrolled in nursing school and later became an LVN. She worked in the nursing industry for over 30 years, working for the Highland General & Coronado Hospitals. Mrs. Bennett loved her loving God and was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. When she wasn’t at church, she loved to be in her yard working in her garden. Maxine will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded by her husband, Boyd Bennett; her parents, her step-father, Clyde Dorman whom she greatly loved and thought of him as her real father, by her brother, Odell Messer; by her step-brother, Leland Dorman; by a daughter-in-law, Glenda Bennett; and by a grandson. Survivors include her two sons, Leon Bennett of Coffeeville, Alabama and Donnie Bennett and wife Donna of Pampa; her five grandchildren; by 13 great-grandchildren; by 6 great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Gaye Bennett and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. The family would like to extend gratitude to the Pampa Nursing Center for their loving care and compassion. Memorials in Maxine Bennett’s name can be sent to Calvary Baptist Church of Pampa at 900 E. 23rd Avenue, Pampa, Texas 79065. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30PM, Monday, May 14, 2018 at the funeral home.
