Melba Brown

Melba L. Brown, 79, of Pampa, passed away, March 17, 2018 in Amarillo. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, and Rick Parnell, retired minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Brown was born on May 24, 1938 in Wheeler to Mattie and Edgar Newman. As a young girl, Melba was raised and attended school in Mobeetie. As a young lady she relocated to Pampa in 1952 and later graduated Pampa High School from the class of ‘56. She later met Lee Brown on a blind date and shortly later married the love of her life, Lee Brown on November 25, 1956 in Pampa. Later they would begin their family, having three sons. Melba and Lee enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage before her passing. Mrs. Brown worked for PISD, working as a special needs teacher’s aide for several years. Melba is a long time and faithful member of Central Baptist Church where she and Lee are charter members of the Couple’s Class and took part in the Benevolence Committee. Melba loved to camp and was a member of Panhandle Camper’s Club. She also liked to garden when she could. Mrs. Brown will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, friend, church member, and she will be greatly missed by all. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, by her son, Buddy Brown; by two brothers, Willis Newman and George Newman; by two brothers-in-law, Eugene Anthony and Butch Brown. Melba is survived by her husband, Lee Brown of the home, her two sons, Eddie Brown and wife Carolyn of Ft. Worth and by Delton Brown and wife Amanda of Allen; one granddaughter, Meredith McBrayer of Ft. Worth; four grandsons, David McBrayer of Granbury, Cody Brown and Erik Brown, both of Garland and by Eli Renner of Allen; two great-granddaughters; and by her two sisters-in-law, Wanda Anthony of Denver, Colorado and by Sue Brown of Geary, Oklahoma. Memorials can be made to The Youth Ministry of Central Baptist Church 513 E. Francis, Pampa, TX 79065. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 5:00 PM- 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
