Melita Helms, 47, of Pampa, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, in Pampa.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, September 18, 2023, in the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Melita was born on August 17, 1976, in Hays, Kansas to Melvin and Maria Isabel Keen. She attended school in Amarillo, graduating from Randall High School. After school, Melita spent several years working in the hotel service in Amarillo. Later in life, she worked in home health for The Visiting Angels. In the early 2010s, she met the love of her life, Chad Helms. She moved to Pampa in 2015, and the couple got married on April 23, 2016.
Soon after her wedding, Melita began working at Pampa Regional Medical Center, serving in the cafeteria and as a dietary consultant. She was employed at the hospital until January of this year. Melita recently started a job as the secretary for ATS Tree Service. She was a hard worker and tried her best with anything that she did.
In her spare time, Melita loved to spend time with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for them and was always the life of the party. She liked dressing up for any occasion and was always there for you. Melita spent many weekends at the lake with Chad, where they would fish for hours. Melita was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pampa.
Melita is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lisa Lazo; three stillborn children, Gracelyn, Tracey, and Maddysen; father-in-law, Dewey Bye; mother-in-law, Glenda Bye; and grandparents by marriage, Alvin and Wilma Helms.
She is survived by her husband, Chad Helms of the home; stepdaughter, Kristen Helms; brother, Sonny Keen and wife Anna; nieces, Ashley Keen and Addison Bye; nephews, Joseph Keen, Julien Keen, and Austin Bye; brother-in-law, Justin Bye and wife Heidi; sister-in-law, Tina Mitchener; and numerous other extended family members.
