Merle L. Miller, 72, of Booker, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 in Plano.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Booker Friends Church with Pastor Darin Kearns, Pastor Gary Mills, and Pastor Wava Maier, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Merle will be available for viewing at the Booker Friends Church on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the Booker Friends Church from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
Merle was born on November 22, 1951 in Darrouzett to Leo and Mary Ruth Howard Miller. He lived in Lipscomb County all his life, in the farmhouse where he was raised and still lived at the time of his passing. Merle worked as a farmer, rancher, and heavy equipment operator for many years. He served on several boards including the Lipscomb County Farm Bureau, Lipscomb County Livestock Board, the Wolf Creek Heritage Museum Board, the Camp Quaker Haven Board, and the Booker Hospital Board. During his time on the Booker Hospital Board, he helped build Twin Oaks Manor.
Merle married Mary Lynn Thompson on July 17, 2004. Together they enjoyed serving their church and their community. Merle especially enjoyed cooking for his church and helping at Camp Quaker Haven during the summers. He served for many years as the County Commissioner for Precinct 2 and was instrumental in furnishing tanker trucks for the Lipscomb County Fire Department. He also volunteered with the Darrouzett Fire Department. Merle will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ruth Miller.
Merle is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Mary Lynn Miller; seven children, Scott Miller and wife Pam, Brady Miller and wife Roni Michelle, Jody Pool and husband Cory, Amy McCandless and husband Dan, Jason Richardson, Ashley Richardson, and Brittney Dobson and husband David; 14 grandchildren, Travis Miller and wife Kayla, Mordikye Miller, William Miller, Mason Miller and wife Kara, Ginna Miller, Zachary Richardson and wife Taylor, Chloe Richardson, Colton Pool, Coy Pool, Ainsley McCandless, Oscar McCandless, Tyler Dobson, Josh Dobson, and Chase Richardson; six great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Anita Miller and Roger Miller and wife Lena.
