Jo was born on October 12, 1929, in Childress County to Luther and Naoma Storey Wolf. She was raised on the family farm outside of Loco. Neva was a 1948 graduate of Wellington High School. After high school, Neva attended business school. She moved to Pampa in 1949 where she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a telephone operator. While working for the telephone company, Jo met Kenneth Mumford. They were married on November 24, 1954, in Childress. After 11 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone, Jo left her job to stay home with her children.
Living on the family farm, Jo had many pets. Her two favorites were Tom the Turkey and Daisy, her beloved cow. Jo would ride Daisy and spent many hours with her. Jo decided she needed a car and had to sell Daisy to help purchase her car.
She volunteered as a leader with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as the PTA. Jo enjoyed fishing, as long as she did not have to bait the hook or take the fish off the line, and camping. She loved attending all her Grandkids activities. She loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys and the whole family knew not to call her while the game was one. Jo also loved to listen to the Pampa Harvester’s games. She had two radios in her house, one for church and when the weather was bad, and one for the Harvesters. She was a lifelong Methodist. Jo attended the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, the First United Methodist Church in Pampa, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Pampa, and Cheyenne First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Naoma Wolf; her husband, Kenneth Mumford; and eight siblings, Lottie Hall, Gene Wolf, Henry Wolf, Bill Wolf, John Wolf, Margaret McGlaun, Zona Barnes, and Juanell Wolf.
Jo is survived by her three children, Carl Mumford and wife Debbie of St. Charles, Missouri, Tracy Mumford and wife Sherry of Roswell, New Mexico, and Carolyn Ford and husband Scott of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Joe Mumford and wife Lauren, Cherice Mumford and wife Melissa, Jahanna McDaniel and husband Jesse, Kristia Oney and husband Nathan, and Aaron Ford and wife Ashley; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Neveah, Braden, Jacob, Braxton, Diego, Finley, Mya, and Myles.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 302 E Foster, Pampa, Texas, 79065.
