Norma Jean Slagle

Norma Jean Slagle, 84, of Groom, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in Groom.

Celebration of life services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Norma was born on May 12, 1936 in O'Donnell to William Herman and Tassie Mae Miller Dorsey. She moved to Groom with her family at age 12. Norma attended school in Groom and later graduated from Amarillo College with a nursing degree. She worked in the Groom Hospital for three years as a nurse's aide before becoming a Registered Nurse. Norma moved to Pampa in the early 80's where she continued working as a nurse in the local hospitals. She married Frank Slagle on January 1, 1985 at the Central Baptist Church in Pampa where they were members. He preceded her in death in 2015. Norma was a member on the local American Cancer Society board and volunteered often for diabetes research. Norma enjoyed making handmade gifts for friends and family including crocheted blankets, painted ornaments, and keepsakes. She also enjoyed woodworking, genealogy, scrap booking, and travel.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Slagle; 2 brothers, Temple Leroy Dorsey and William H. "Bill" Dorsey, Jr.; and 2 sisters, Erma Joyce Dorsey and Anna Arvella Himebaugh.

She is survived by her 4 children, Earnest Baggerman and wife Diann of Miami, Peggy Baggerman of Groom, Roger Baggerman and wife Robin of Rowlett, and Madina Joshi of Richardson; 2 siblings, Lavada Finney and husband Tom of Greeley, Colorado and Jerry D. Dorsey and wife Jolean of Pottsboro; 9 grandchildren, Paul, Brandy, Kurt, Katie, Jill, Lauren, Kyle, Alex, and Ashley; and 7 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Briley, Bryce, Bailee, J.P., Karis, and Zailee.
