Pauline Cotner Daugherty

December 5, 1925 — December 10, 2018

Pauline Cotner Daugherty, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior December 10, 2018 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 14, 2018 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Brian Thomas of Harvest Bible Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Pauline was born December 5, 1925 to Wilbur and Ethel Frances Taylor Cotner in Detroit, Michigan. While in Detroit, Pauline sang on the radio as a young child. At the age of 14, her family bought a farm between Canadian and Perryton. She attended Perryton High School where she graduated with honors, and later earned a degree from West Texas Teacher’s College in Canyon. While she was secretary of First Methodist Church in Pampa, she met her future husband Leon Wallace Daugherty. They married on August 2, 1949 at the First Methodist Church. In 1951 Paula Frances was born to Pauline and Leon. In 1954 they bought a farm north of Pampa on Highway 70, which was still a caliche road at that time. The family moved into the existing house where she lived until her passing. When farming was lean, she taught 4th grade at Lamar Elementary School. In 1959, Marvin Leon joined the family. Much of her life, she was a member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Winsome Sunday School Class. She was currently a member of Harvest Bible Church. She loved to knit and provided all the family and others with afghans. Trips to McDonalds and the Youth Center were an important part of her life. Pauline enjoyed getting together with the Wayside Club, and even this last year as her health declined, she loved to go to town with occasional trips to Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband Leon, on May 4, 1994; her parents; and siblings Carm, Fran, and Wilbur, Jr. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Whitney and husband Don of Pampa; a son, Marvin Daugherty and wife Laurie of Pampa; six grandchildren, Michelle Lee Whitney of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Chris Whitney and wife Shanna of McGregor, Jessica Whitney Whiteley and husband T. J. of Pampa, Aaron Whitney and wife Michelle of Pearland, Amanda Daugherty of Pampa, and Matthew Daugherty of Decatur; seven great grandchildren, Baylee Whitney, Wade Whitney and Harlee Whitney, all of McGregor, Tyce Whiteley of Pampa, Parker Whitney, Mallory Whitney and Westin Whitney, all of Pearland. The family is grateful to her caregivers during the last year of her life. These included Leonela Ponce, Victoria Alonzo, Margarita Caldera, and Yetzy Ponce. They treated her as part of their family. Memorials may be made to Pampa Meals on Wheels, PO Box 939, Pampa, Texas 79066-0939. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Thursday, December 13, 2018, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
