Phillip R. Hutchison, 81, of Pampa, passed away on December 31, 2022 in Pampa.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Michael Rinne, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stratford, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Phillip was born October 2, 1941 in Ark City, Kansas to I.E. and Madelene Hutchison. His family moved to Pampa in 1950 and he attended Pampa schools. He was into boxing as a young man. Phillip was known as a “tough guy” growing up. On May 4, 1960, he married Ellen Harrington in Panhandle. They celebrated over 30 years of marriage before she passed away on March 9, 1991. Later in 1991, he married Ardra Davis and she passed away on April 1, 2015. Phillip was a rough neck in the oilfield from 1958 until 1972. It was 1972 when he started his career as a boilermaker. Phillip was a member of the International Boilermaker Union Local #531. He spent most of his time in Borger at the Phillips plant and he would travel as needed to other plants across the country. He loved his job and took great pride in his work. Phillip retired after 35 years of service.
Phillip was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and was a talented artist and woodworker. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and restoring old cars. Phillip was a great storyteller and will be missed dearly by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Victor Hutchison and Charles Hutchison; sister, Dorlene Burrell; two brothers, Bruce Hutchison and Doy Hutchison; and a great granddaughter, Madeline Brotherton.
Survivors include his son, Mark Hutchison and wife Kim of Amarillo; he was PaPa to his two granddaugters, Neely Brotherton and husband Ethan of Stratford and Kendall Arney and husband C.J. of Amarillo; two great grandchildren, Carson and Kylie and a great grandson on the way, Camden Mark.
Memorial can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
