R. C. “Chaille” Atchley, 88, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Corky Holland, minister of Senior Adults at First Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Atchley was born September 27, 1931 in Talpa to Aubrey and Frankie Crook Atchley. Chaille married Leone Smith in 1952 in Coleman, Tx. She preceded him in death in 1984. He was drafted into the Army in 1954 and served overseas. Chaille worked as a drilling superintendent for Wy-Vel Drilling & Production in Pampa for many years. He married Betty Jennings on August 28, 1987 in Pampa. Chaille will be remembered by all as having a wonderful sense of humor, the ability to see the good in all people and circumstances, and a love for life. He was a past member of Highland Baptist Church.
Chaille was preceded in death by a brother Russell and wife Fae Atchley, sons Steve, Greg, and Bret, and daughter Brenda Jennings.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty of Amarillo; two daughters, Jill Sandy of Abilene and Bonnie Tew & husband Jerry of Claremore, Oklahoma; two sons Mike Jennings & wife Sherilyn of Amarillo and Mark Jennings & wife Teresa of Claremore, Oklahoma; three daughters-in-law Joan Atchley of Bastrop, Susan Atchley of Lakeway, and Alecia Atchley of Midland, a brother Wayne & wife Janice Atchley of Abilene, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
