Ramona “Mona” Rhea Jennings Freeman, 52, of White Deer, died August 23, 2017 in Donley County. Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 26, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Pampa, with Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church of White Deer, and Rev. Robert Burke, pastor of First United Methodist Church of White Deer, officiating. Burial will follow in White Deer Cemetery under the directions of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mona was born October 3, 1964 in Spearman. She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1983. She was the Class 1A 3rd place Texas State medalist in 1982, and was the first Wheeler High School golfer to win the Class 1A 1st place State medal in 1983. She was inducted in the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame as Golfer of the Year in 1983. She played on the Texas Tech University Women’s golf team from 1984-1988, and was the Women’s West Texas Golf champion in 1990 from Lakeridge Country Club in Lubbock. Mona was extremely accomplished with her golfing career. She received a golf scholarship from Texas Tech University and received a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1988. She attended the LPGA qualifying school for 2 years. She began her career coaching and teaching in the valley, and later coached at White Deer, Canadian, Highland Park, Borger, Pampa, and finished her career back in White Deer. She married Johnny Freeman on March 10, 1994 in Wheeler at her parents’ home. Mona was the #1 cheerleader for her kids at all of their events. She loved golfing and fishing, and enjoyed playing cards and board games. The last few years she loved coaching both Skylar and Payton on to State golf tournaments. Mona loved spending time with family, she enjoyed being “Mo” to her grandchildren, and “Ammo” to her nieces and nephews. Survivors include her husband, Johnny Freeman of the home; four children, Skylar Rhea-Lynn Freeman, John Payton Freeman, both of White Deer, Amanda Freeman Saffel and husband Phillip and their children Olivia and Everett of Lubbock, and Justin Freeman and wife Lacee, and their children Jaxon, Logan, and Hunter of White Deer; her parents, Larry and Bobby Jennings of Wheeler; a sister, Rhonda Myers and husband Dwayne of Samnorwood; a niece, Dani Jernigan and husband Tyler and their children J’Leigh and Jasper, all of Pampa; a nephew, Codi Myers and wife Charlie of McLean; and an uncle, Richard Ellis and wife Donna of Plano; and mother-in-law, Doris Freeman of White Deer. Her beloved Freeman brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews throughout the Panhandle brought her great joy and laughter. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Clint Freeman; grandparents, Bill and Dorothy Ellis and Wilson and Margaret Pate.
