R. C. Giesecke

June 8, 1930 — February 20, 2020

R. C. Giesecke, 89, of Miami, formerly of Matador, passed away on Thursday, February 20. 2020 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2020 in Miami Cemetery with Monty Wheeler officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

R. C. was born June 8, 1930 in Denton, Texas to C. W. and Arlene Giesecke. He graduated from Matador High School as valedictorian of his class and went on to earn his master of mechanical engineering degree from Texas A&M University.  R. C. was a very proud Army veteran and served in the Korean conflict.  He married Ellen Browning in 1955 and later married Callie Sedgewick; she passed away in 2015.  For several years after college, he worked in the Houston area designing grain elevators. In 1962, he returned to Matador and purchased a butane business.  He owned and operated Giesecke Butane Supply for 31 years before he retired in 1993. R. C. loved his job and had a great work ethic.  Family was important to him and he loved them dearly.  He had a passion for major league baseball, picking pecans all over town, and working on his farm. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, L. C. Giesecke and R. L. Giesecke.

Survivors include his daughter, Marian Giesecke Wilmoth and husband Jerry of Miami; son, Charles Giesecke of Fruitvale; 2 sisters, Charlene Bagley of Canyon and Nixie Sullivan and husband Ray of Allen; 3 grandchildren, Jarod Allen and wife Crystal, Darrin Allen and wife Sharon, and Roger Browning and wife Angie; 5 great grandchildren.
