Richard Dare “Rick” Locke, 71, of Miami, passed away August 26, 2018 in Canadian.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Miami, with Rev. Tom Stribling, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Happy, and Rev. Dennis Williams, pastor of First Baptist Church of Miami, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mr. Locke was born March 17, 1947 in Pampa to Wallace and Mozelle Locke. He was a lifelong resident of Miami, graduating from Miami High School in 1966. After graduation, he attended Clarendon College in Clarendon and Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. Rick married Marcele Ford in April of 1969, and that same year, he and his brother Keith, formed the Locke Cattle Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami.
Rick was a sharp businessman who took on responsibilities at a young age. He never forgot a detail on a contract, or a promise made, and he tended to enforce that he was right. Rick was an avid lover of football, playing cards, and trips to Las Vegas, and he spent lots of time with his Tire Shop buddies. He always loved a good wager on anything he could think of!
In spite of his physical limitations, Rick was taught by his parents that there was nothing he couldn’t achieve. He adapted and found ways to succeed at anything he put his mind to, such as roping a calf, riding a horse, bowling a 300 game, or playing a wicked game of pool. Even though he battled everyday physical pain, no one ever knew he hurt because of his infectious personality. He always had a comeback and was quick witted.
The family wishes to offer special thanks to Hemphill County Hospice and Edward Abraham Nursing Home for their loving care of Rick.
