Ricky Dale Simmons

Ricky Simmons, 68, of Pampa, passed away, September 7, 2021, in Pampa.

A reflection of life memorial service for Rick will follow the 10:30 worship service on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Kentucky Avenue Church of Christ with Scott Futrell, pastor, officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the care of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Ricky was born on August 4, 1953, in Deming, NM to Billie Jean and Clayton Simmons. He was a class of ’71 graduate of W. T. White High School. After high school, Ricky enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and he served his country for over 20 years. Rick served during the Vietnam Conflict and was proud to be part of the search and rescue team during that time and he also served during Desert Storm. Rick retired in 1993 from the Navy as an E-7. After retirement from the Navy, Ricky stayed busy and worked as a hearing officer at Corrections Corporation of America and he had tenure as a commercial truck driver and a Department of Transportation officer in commercial vehicle enforcement. In 2008 he entered the criminal justice system industry, serving as a corrections officer until 2011. Once more, he wasn’t done working or learning, so Ricky went back to college to be a nurse. Once he graduated, Ricky worked as a certified nurse for Coronado Health Care.  He will be remembered as a dedicated and loyal man who always put others first.

Ricky was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, David Bobb; and by a sister, Debbie Keiser.

His survivors include his stepdaughter, Amber Hickerson and husband Patrick; 2 stepsons, Jack Russell and wife Dee Dee, and Jesse Horner and wife Michaela; three grandchildren, John Russell, Jr., Utunah Russell, and Saber Hickerson; numerous great-grandchildren; a niece, Shelly Fox; a nephew, Eric Keiser; and other numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
