Robert G. Craig, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.
Private family service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Mike Watson, of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Robert was born September 20, 1935 in Pampa to Arthur and Lena Craig. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1956. On February 10, 1956, he married Bettie Willson in Pampa, and she preceded him in death on July 23, 2016 after 60 years of marriage. Robert began working at Cabot Machinery after he graduated, and he worked there until 1969. After his time with Cabot, he worked for Kerr-McGee Kingsmill Plant for many years. Robert retired in 1997 from the Texas Railroad Commission where he worked over 15 years. While he held a full-time job, he also farmed, ran cattle, and had his own cardboard recycling business. Robert and Bettie raised their family in the Kingsmill community for 35 years and attended the Kingsmill Community Church. He was a longtime member of Hobart Baptist Church, 50-year member of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966, and was a member of Pampa Chapter #65 Order of Eastern Star for over 30 years. He served as past Master of the Masonic lodge and was Worthy Patron of OES nine times. Robert was an avid collector and rebuilder of antique tractors. He would travel all over the Midwest just to pick up a tractor. In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycles and water skiing with his family. Robert was a member of the Golden Spread Tractor Club and founding member of the Heritage Tractor Club. He had a passion for farming and ranching and loved being “Papa” to his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jimmy L. Craig, and a sister, Margaret Craig.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Sue Knutson and Lee Bear of Pampa; 3 sons, Randall Craig and wife Tracy of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Michael Craig and Mark Craig both of Pampa; 3 sisters, Pauline Blanton of Yukon, OK, Alice Havens of Odessa and Linda McCarley and husband Danny of Pampa; a brother in law, Alfred Willson and wife Gloria of Pampa; 10 grandchidlren, Jeremy Knutson, Shannon Craig, Carey Knutson, Leah Gebbie, Meagan Craig, Julie Thompson, Hannah Badders, Abigail Panter, Bridgett Hillman, and Jimmy Craig; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
