Robert Douglas (Bob) Horton, 87, passed away February 17, 2018 in Pampa. Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Carmichael- Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Albert Maggard, pastor of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Bob was born to Hallie and D.A. Horton on November 1, 1930 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up in Haughton, Louisiana one of six children. He graduated from Haughton High School in 1951. He joined the US Navy on June 26, 1951 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Bob served on the USS Sandavol during the Korean Conflict as a gunner’s mate. He was then appointed as the ship’s barber. After being discharged on June 17, 1955, he married Annette Smith on July 13, 1955 in Clayton, New Mexico. Bob attended West Texas Barber College 1955-1956. Upon graduation he moved to Pampa. He worked at Crowson Barber Shop from 1956 to 1966. He partnered with Gip Gipson and operated Bob and Gip’s Barber Shop for 10 years. Bob was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a Hunter Safety Instructor. He moved to Dallas in 1974 and began a career servicing fishing reels until he retired from Southwest Parts and Service Center in 1999. Bob loved fishing, hunting and just being out of doors. He enjoyed garage sales and flea markets and had many collections. He moved back to Pampa in 2005 to enjoy a slower pace of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie and Dove Alexander Horton; a brother, James (Jimmy) Horton; and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Turner. He is survived by his wife, Annette Horton of the home; two sons, Terry Horton and wife Donna of Tyler, and Richard Craig Horton and wife Beverly of Pampa; one daughter, Bobbi Jo Laurich and husband Marty of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Christopher Laurich of Irving, Jennifer Laurich of Amarillo, Terena Horton of Irving, and Jamie Erickson of Lompac, CA; two sisters Barbara Riley and husband Bob of Benton, LA, and Thelma Porter of Bossier City, LA; one brother, George Thomas and wife Rita of Benton, LA; four great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the First Pentecostal Church in Pampa, the Boy Scouts of America or Interim Hospice. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
