Roger W. Betts, 58, of Pampa passed away on November 19, 2021 in Pampa. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Roger was born on January 25, 1963 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Ollie and Pearlie Mae Betts. He attended schools in Hobbs, graduating from Hobbs High School in 1981. After school, he worked in the oilfield for a short time, but later joined the Navy 1984. Roger served as a gunner’s mate and was stationed in several parts of the world, including San Diego, California, Chicago, Illinois, and even in Japan. Roger was in the Navy a total of twenty years. Most of that time, he instructed and trained new recruits to become gunner’s mates as well.
After the Navy, Roger moved to the Borger and Fritch area to be close to his dad and other family. He worked at the Phillips 66 refinery in Borger as a security guard. In 2019, he retired and moved to Pampa to be with his brother. During his retirement, he loved to read. From science fiction to mystery, Roger read it all. He also enjoyed fishing and loved any kind of shooting sport.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robbie Betts; and brother-in-law, Bryan Pool.
He is survived by his sister, Gayla Dawn Betts; brother, Rodney L. Betts of Pampa; two step-sisters, Barbara Pryor and husband Joe of Burleson and Glenna Pool of Mannford, Oklahoma; step-brother, Clifford Baileys and wife Vanessa of Woodward, Oklahoma; niece, Chesica Beedle of Raton, New Mexico; and numerous other relatives.
