September 12, 1947 — February 6, 2022

Roxanna Pauline Grice Hendricks, age 74 , passed away Sunday, February 6th, 2022 at Pampa Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Pampa for many years, but her heart belonged in Goodwell, Oklahoma.

No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Roxanna was born on September 12, 1947 at her Grandma Grice’s house in Guymon, OK on South May Street to John Gale “Bill” Grice and Beatrice Fern “Bea” Riffel Grice. She was very premature, and her Grandma Grice, who had 10 children of her own, kept her alive with spoonfuls of milk with sugar. Growing up with her siblings, Rita and Rusty, they lived in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma before settling in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Roxanna was preceded in death by both of her parents; her father in 2007 and her mother in 2017.

Roxanna met the love of her life, Daniel Lynn Hendricks, in 1970, and they were married April 18,1970. They were blessed with one child, Daniel Grice Hendricks, in 1974. After living in various cities in Oklahoma, the Hendricks family settled in Pampa, Texas in 1981. Roxanna worked various jobs in town while Dan built a business in the oilfield, Roxi Production. Roxanna and Dan have also welcomed 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Roxanna was a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University where she learned the skills to write what was on her heart. She majored in elementary education and minored in physical education. She honed her technical writing skills as a medical transcriptionist for many years and via columns for two newspapers; the Guymon Daily Herald and the Cushing Citizen, where she would become editor. Paul Harvey highlighted her writing ability by reading one of her articles on his nationally syndicated radio program. Furthermore, Roxanna had multiple poems and short stories published. Even into the twilight of her storied life, she entertained and moved family and strangers alike with her stories that will be cherished for generations. Her love of language was always strong and instilled a respect and deep understanding of grammar and literature in her entire family.

Always growing and learning, her artistry was never limited to the written word; Roxanna was a phenomenal interior decorator, painter, musician, and traveler. She was an accomplished artist and was president of the Pampa Heritage Art club in 2004-2005, 2008- 2009, and 2011-2012. She was also honored as Pampa Heritage Art Club’s artist of the year. She shared her artistic insight while teaching art at the Pampa Hobby Shop in the 1980s and 1990s. A lifelong friend to animals, Roxanna always had a companion in rescued animals, and she supported animals in shelters across the nation through anonymous donations.

Grammy and Coach, as Roxanna and Dan are known to their grandchildren and many others, really enjoyed making Christmas special for everyone.  Roxanna often created games to play for the kids and trivia competitions for the adults. She did her best to source the prizes from various countries, and it was always a treat to argue over who won and which country had the best goodies.

Surviving Roxanna are,  Loving husband of 51+ years, Dan of the home; son, Danny and wife Lori (Sutton) of Pampa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bryce and wife Reneé (Baggerman) and sons Parker and Griffin; Alec and wife Tiara (Gagliardo) and daughters, Siryn and Ember; Emily, Jackson, and Joshua, all of Pampa.
