Roy Sawyer, 89, of Lefors, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Lefors.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Mike Watson, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Sawyer was born April 27, 1930 in Pampa to Kenneth and Bernice Sawyer. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged as a welder in 1952. He married the love of his life, Eddie Mae Hall, on October 17, 1954 in Clayton, New Mexico. Roy held various positions at Phillips 66, retiring in 1995 after 42 years of service as a pumper. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM. His lifelong passion was being a rancher. Roy was a member of the Lefors Church of Christ. He enjoyed passing on his life skills and his love for Christ to his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Eddie Mae Sawyer of the home; two daughters, Jeanie Piekarski and husband Lee of The Woodlands, and Joy Huizar and husband Charles of Pampa; eight grandchildren, TeJay Steele and wife Sarah of San Jose, California, Michael Steele and wife Amber of Lakeway, Bradley Sawyer and wife Kylie, Sarai Lord and husband Corey, all of Amarillo, Jared Piekarski and wife McKenzie of Wichita, Kansas, Franky Steele of Austin, Johnny Reagan and wife Christina of Lefors, and Gatlin Reagan of Amarillo; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou Landrom of Ninnekah, Oklahoma; and a close and loved family member, Robert Gifford and wife Carla of Breckenridge. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barney Sawyer; and a daughter, Teresa Sawyer.
The family would like to thank Interim Hospice and Donna Hook for their loving care of Roy.
