Shirley Elizabeth Fugate Dyson, 84, of Amarillo and formerly of Mobeetie, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Gary Jahnel and Thacker Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Mobeetie Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.
Shirley was born on August 3, 1938 in Pampa, the second child of Archie and Clara Wells Fugate. She was a 1957 graduate of Pampa High School. Shirley furthered her education at Draughon’s Business School. After graduation, she worked for a few years at the Gray County Court House in Pampa. On April 4, 1959, she married Bill Dyson at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Pampa. They were married 51 years before he passed away on February 4, 2011. When they moved to Mobeetie, Shirley worked for several retail stores in Wheeler as well as helped Bill on the farm.
Shirley enjoyed gardening, tending to her flower beds, as well as yard work. She was a talented seamstress, whether it was quilting or embroidery work, always attention to detail. Shirley was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church in Mobeetie. She was also very devoted to her family and was especially proud of her two grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents; brother, Kenneth Fugate; and her step-father, Roy Hunter.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Dyson and wife Linda of Panhandle; a daughter, Debbie Hammer and husband Todd of Chico; sister, Janie Morris and husband Bill of Pampa; two grandchildren, Libby Dyson of Houston and Thomas Hammer and wife Kelsey of Chico.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 PM.
