Thomas Kelly "Tom" Brown

September 13, 1998 — January 9, 2019

Thomas Kelly “Tom” Brown, 18, of Canadian went missing on November 23, 2016.   He was found January 9, 2019 in Hemphill County.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the gymnasium at Canadian High School with Rev. Sydne Allen, co-pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Canadian, and Cory Campbell, youth minister at First United Methodist Church of Canadian, officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Thomas was born September 13, 1998 in Pampa and attended Wright Elementary School in Perryton until the second grade.  In 2006 he started schools in Canadian.  He was a senior at Canadian High School in 2016, scheduled to graduate in May of 2017.  While in high school he was very active in the theatre program and football program.  He was fortunate to be on two state championship football teams. During his junior and senior years, he started in the Hemphill County 4-H where he would advance to state in public speaking.  He also served as president of his class for two years and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. Thomas had plans to attend college after high school and become a sports broadcaster.

Thomas had a wonderful personality and was known to be very witty and funny; he could work a room and have them rolling in no time.  He seemed to be everyone’s friend and could carry on a conversation with his peers as well as adults.  Thomas had a caring heart and would always be there to stand up for those who couldn’t.  He will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and his community.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Buster and Ruby Brown and W.C. and Janice Kendall; great grandmother, Irene Hardin.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Penny and Chris Meek of Canadian; his father, Kelly Brown of Perryton; two brothers, Tucker Brown of Canadian and Toby Brown and wife Lisa of Perryton; a sister, Laura Braxton and husband Bobby of Lucas; and a stepbrother, Jacob Meek of Canadian.

The family would like to express their appreciation for all the love and support that has been given over the past 2 years.

Memorials may be made to the Thomas Brown Scholarship Fund, c/o Opportunity Plan, Inc., 504 24th Street, Canyon, Texas 79015.
