Veda Mae Gasaway Collins, 95, of Lubbock, died October 15, 2017 in Lubbock. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Collins was born March 24, 1922 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Horace and Della Gasaway. She attended schools in Skellytown and White Deer. After graduation, Veda married Lewis R. Collins, Sr., in 1941 in White Deer. While Lewis was serving in the Army, she worked at Fatheree’s Drug Store in Pampa. They moved to Spearman in 1961 where Veda went to work for TNM Public Service Company, retiring in 1988. In 1996, they moved to Lubbock to be closer to their kids. Lewis preceded her in death on January 2, 2010. She enjoyed needlework, yardwork and always had a spotless house. At the age age of 92, Veda finally allowed her son to hire a lawn service to take care of the yard. She was a Baptist. Survivors include her son, L R. “Rick” Collins, Jr. and wife Deborah of Lubbock; and her granddaughter, Amanda N. Collins of Lubbock. Veda was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Homer L. Gasaway in 1975. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 123 S. Bernice Street, Spearman, Texas 79081.
