Velma Raye Horton-Black, 68, of Grand Prairie and formerly of Pampa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2021 in Arlington.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Jamisen Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Velma was born April 2, 1952 to Ray and Velma Faye Horton, and she was raised in Pampa. She was strong in her faith and started her Facebook group she called "Prayer Warriors" where anyone that was in need of thoughts or prayers could make a request. She also handed out love, prayers, and devotion to the ones that needed it. Velma had a love for life and was very passionate in everything she cared about.
Velma was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Faye Meador and father, Franklin Ray Horton, also both of Pampa, and also preceding her in death was her brother, Howard A. Youngblood; sister, Jacklyn Faye Bunch of Pampa, and her nephew, Aaron Wade Lewis.
Velma leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Billy Black in Grand Prairie; 3 sons, Galen Black of Baytown, Waylon Black of Ft. Worth, and Travis Black of Spurger. She leaves behind 4 granddaughters, Heather, Crystal, Erin (Maggie) all of Midland and Lalonnie in Baytown; 1 great granddaughter, Serenity of Baytown as well as many other loved family members and dear friends.
Velma and Bill shared their passion for their fur-babies, Baxter, Q, and the newly inherited Dezi after the passing of her sister, Jackie.
