Vera Geneva Hughes Farmer, 84, of Pampa passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church with Rev. Mark Lang, rector, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Farmer was born January 21, 1934 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Samuel Glenn and Edith Fletcher Hughes. She has lived in Pampa since 1944 and graduated from Pampa High School in 1952. Vera married C.L. Farmer June 29, 1953 in Pampa, he passed away in 2006. She was a homemaker while her children were young, very active in PTA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Beta Sigma Phi and the many other activities her children were involved in. Vera retired from Pampa Independent School District after many years of service. She held several jobs including substitute teaching, librarian, and technology coordinator at Baker and Lamar Elementary. She was a longtime member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, where she served in various capacities through the years.
Always the centerpiece of her home and hearth, she was the consummate 60’s homemaker, with high heels, perfectly coiffured hair, and a freshly baked casserole. Vera enjoyed baking, especially during Christmas time, when she would bake all kinds of Christmas candies, cookies and sweets. She was very crafty, enjoyed knitting, quilting, and all types of arts and crafts. She was an excellent seamstress. She was loved dearly by her family and she loved being Mom and “Granny” to them. She instilled an absolute confidence and can do attitude in her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Christopher Ward Farmer in 1986 and Calvin Efton Farmer in 2007; a sister, Doylene Bremmerman; and a grandson, Nathan DuBois in 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon DuBois and husband Bill of Anacortes, Washington; and son, Curt Farmer and wife Evelyn of Pampa; brother, Joe Hughes and wife Shirley of Pueblo, Colorado; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Committal will be in the columbarium in the Chapel of the Holy Family at St. Matthew’s. The family will receive guests in the parish hall following the service. The family request memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 727 W. Browning, Pampa, Texas.
